Preventing Child Abuse and Neglect. Whatever it takes…

Whatever it Takes…

Preventing child abuse and neglect by supporting and strengthening families so that they can remain together in their community is the sole mission of Brevard C.A.R.E.S.  We commit to “Strengthening families… whatever it takes.”

So… exactly what does it take?

Recently, a mother of two children entered our care, having been the victim of domestic violence for years. In addition to withholding her income, her abuser withheld medication as a manipulative technique to ensure she remained dependent.

Multiple members of the C.A.R.E.S. Safety Management and Non-Judicial teams stepped in to assist this mother and her children. The team of dedicated employees provided her with her needed medications, worked with her landlord to release her from a lease without penalty, found and assisted with her move to a new home, enrolled the children in daycare, and provided her with counseling. Step by step, these actions helped this mother and her children gain independence from her abuser, a task that once seemed insurmountable for a struggling mother.

What else does it take? Flexibility.

Every family that enters the C.A.R.E.S. program is different: different circumstances, different personalities, different needs.  It’s our job to listen, evaluate the situation, and offer custom solutions that fit every family.  To ensure the safety of children, it’s vital that we support the family as they make positive changes and find the right supports within the community to ensure their success.
